Harding Nature Trail (P.O.I.)

Directions: From either California TR 261 or California TR 241 in Orange Country take the Santiago Canyon Rd. (also Chapman Rd.) exit and head northwest for a bit over a mile to a right turn onto Jamboree Rd. Drive 0.3 miles on Jamboree as it veers right and turns into Irvine Park Rd. Continue through the kiosk and turn right (follow the signs for the railroad). After a few yards veer right and follow the park road for 0.3 miles to a right turn into parking lot 8. 

Find the access trail leaving from the east side of the parking lot and follow as it heads over to the road and up the hill. Continue on the pavement, following the right fork between the poles and up the hill for a few tens of yards before reaching the trailhead for the Harding Nature Trail on your right.

Synopsis: This is a nice, and short, little nature trail. It's a good place for a lunch break and is a comfortable path that doesn't get more challenging than some easy climbing in the beginning.

Trail Notes: Some good shade and a bench for warm days.

Turn by Turn:

  -- After the trip from the parking lot, walk through the benches at the trailhead. The most difficult part of the hike is deciding whether to take the short loop clockwise or counter.

  -- Upon finishing, retrace your steps down the paved road to the parking area.
