Directions: From Interstate 5 at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley take exit for CA Highway 58 west to Buttonwillow and McKitrick. Follow CA 58 for almost 44 miles to Soda Lake Rd. Turn left (south) on Soda Lake Rd. and head 9.8 miles to the signed left turn into the dirt parking area for the Boardwalk.

Synopsis: This little stroll takes you out to white (when dry), alkalai Soda Lake, then follows the lake contours on a short, educational boardwalk trail. Best in winter when there's water in the lake.

Turn by Turn: 

  -- Step through the rails onto the obvious trail heading toward the lake. Follow the straight path all the way to the lakeside.

  -- Turn right to take the boardwalk to its end.

  -- Retrace your path back to the parking area.
