Directions: From Hwy 85 near Cupertino CA. take the Saratoga Ave. exit south to the small town of Saratoga. Continue straight through the town as Saratoga Ave. turns into CA-9 (also Big Basin Way). Continue south, the west, on windy CA-9 as it climbs to a junction with CA-35. Turn left and head up the road. At about 2.6 miles you'll see a right turn into the small parking lot for Castle Rock State Park. Just a few yards past this there is a left turn into a gated pull-out. This is the trailhead for Indian Rock and also overflow parking for Castle Rock State Park.

Synopsis: A short, easy walk on a nice path to a viewpoint and rock outcrop. Good for some partially obscured views if you  catch it at the right time.

Trail sequence: Indian Rock Trail

Type: Out and back

Distance: 0.3 miles

Elevation: Min. - 2957', Max. - 3079'

Rating: Easy

Notes: Technically this little trail is not in Castle Rock SP, but Sanborn-Skyline County Park. But I hiked it on the same day I did hikes in Castle Rock, and it seemed most efficient to just include it in with other Castle Rock tracks.

Track: Indian Rock - Castle Rock SP

Turn by Turn:

-- Head through the fence next to the gate and follow the trail east as it gradually descends and circles to the north. As you near the rock at the end you jog to the west and see openings in the canopy that allow some fragments of views of the Santa Clara Valley to the east.

-- Retrace your steps to the parking area.
